Bandit shot dead in confrontation with police

A bandit was fatally wounded by law enforcement officers who responded to a robbery under arms report that occurred in the vicinity of #61 Village and #63 Village beaches. The bandit was identified as Delroy Cort. The body is currently at the Skeldon Hospital mortuary awaiting post mortem examination. Information gathered by this publication unto press time last night stated that a couple was walking on the entrance of the Number 61 Village beach when they were pounced upon by two armed gun men and taken on to the beach.  The male and female victims were robbed of two cellular phones, $60,000 cash and a gold chain.  Efforts to contact the couple proved futile. Meanwhile, a community police who was in the area, observed what was happening and chased after the bandits after alerting other officers to what had occurred.  According to, Police commander ‘B’ Division Christopher Griffith, when the officers responded to the report, the bandits shot at them. He explained that the officers returned fire and killed Cort, while his partner in crime escaped. According to Griffith a shotgun and two spent shells were recovered from the scene. Police investigations are continuing.
