PPP notes APNU withdrawal from TV debates … shows their charges of corruption are unfoundedPDFPrintE-mail

THE People’s Party (PPP) has observed that the APNU has forfeited its position on the issue of corruption in the PPP/C Government. “Their confirmation that they will not participate further in the ongoing public debates on corruption is and that their charges of corruption are unfounded,” according to a PPP statement.

APNU, in a desperate effort to save face, has issued a press statement which is merely an attempt to distract from their withdrawal of participation in the ongoing debates organized by the National Communications Network, where, apart from political parties, professionals and members of the private sector are involved.

APNU’s attempt to hide from these public debates exposes them as intellectually incapable and impotent, and confirms that they are only comfortable with their whisper campaigns, away from public scrutiny, where blatant lies are promulgated to slander, incite, create ethnic insecurities and hate towards the Government.

It is the very APNU which complained about the lack of access to NCN, and here it is they are being provided with unadulterated access to expose all their allegations of corruption in a forum which only serves to promote transparency and advance our democracy.
However, rather than embracing such an opportunity, they are making all manner of excuses to hide from being accountable to the people, as it is clear that they have no evidence of corruption.

The People’s Progressive Party will continue to participate in this debate series and commends the other stakeholders, including the other opposition party, who have all been participating in this process, which not only provides information to the public, but also encourages their participation.

It is a shame that the APNU does not view this as important enough to warrant their participation, the PPP statement concludes.

It was clear to anyone with even a grain of intelligence that this whole debate was a scam by the PPP regime. Since when do governments and opposition debate corruption on TV? Only in Guyana! Such crimes are investigated by the police and parliament, not discussed as if it is a chat show.

Mr.T

An open debate is intended for the Guyanese public to know the truth about corruption and their government. The oppositions can multitask and conduct an external, off the camera investigation, but they still have nothing to prove. That leave Ramjattan to come forward and scrape off the shame on his face.

FM

No government has ever held an open debate of such. The PPP is up to a dirty trick and mark out those who know too much. Showing up and speaking out would be equivalent to signing one's own death warrant.

Mr.T

The deal is done and the opposition has not prove their claims to the public. Let's see what else they will come up with. Go and complain to Stormy who may listen to you. BTW, I have a rice bag to cover Ramjattan face when he decided to quit the witch hunting.

It's not for the opposition to prove. It's for parliament and the plice to investigate. The PPP regime is avoiding the proper method to investigate these crimes. Instead they want to chat about it .  You couldn't make it up.

I pity you fool, if the opposition is making unfounded accusations then it is up to them to prove corruption. Parliament or police can not just rush to investigate charges against govt every time the opposition sneeze.

Any opposition party should jump at the opportunity to talk about corruption in the government. They do it all the time on Sharma on 'Justice for all' But when challenged by the ruling party to openly discuss it they run away.

FM

It's not for the government to challenge the opposition to discuss it. It's down to the police to investigate it. The PPP is trying to short circuit the wheels of justice and let their crime buddies off. It's a scam for kids to take part in.

Mr.T

The opposition has been talking about corruption for years. What is wrong if the Govt says okay lets talk about it and see what we can do to stop it? What is sinister about this?

These debates are a charade, an attempt of the PPP to rehabilitate itself. It is clear the moderator and the PPP participants are in sync and that the whole thing is orchestrated. It makes no sense to attend these things.

But it's a start, isn't it?  The debates are a good start, it should evolve into something routine for discussions on a variety of matters of national concern.  Choking it off from inception will not serve anyone, much less the Guyanese people, any good.
