Did APNU and AFC do the honorable thing and conceded the election and congratulate President Donald Ramotar? Well, the president-elect is now the executive president of the cooperative Republic of Guyana and commander-in-chief of the arm forces while APNU is still protesting with its supporters. Some things never change, and putting sheep clothing on wolf only change the exterior but not the old dirty habits.

President Ramotar said he will work with all parties for the next five years for the good of the country. I notice the AFC is calm and mean business. I know they will serve the best interest of Guyana and the people.

It's too early to tell what APNU is up and how they will perform in parliament. Even though the opposition holds the majority seats, it will need much support from APNU to pass major legislations.

If the AFC recognizes that APNU will be a stalemate on important issues in parliament they should vote along with the PPP and leave APNU alone to dwindle.

The AFC shown strength and courage, and they're in a good position be the major opposition or the leading party in 2016. I foresee APNU days are coming to an end.

He has five years only in his mind. He will not last three. We will get a no confidence vote as soon as the APNU and the AFC cut their supply to free state cash and resources to facilitate a campaign. Much of what will happen between then and now is a dismantling of the PPP.

Should BJ get most of the blame for this?
The PPP self destructed because of its greed. Imaging the massive outlay of capital and mobilizing of the state resources to their campaign, not to mention dressing up every Amerind; man, woman and child in PPP monkey suits plus lots of bead trading and they still lost. The nation has too much of a strong whiff of the stench of their corruption. They have a long time ahead to dig themselves out from the pile of manure.

This is why I believe "winner takes all" in Guyana election. I don't think there would be any cooperation between the parties. Words are going around on GNI about AFC/APNU are trying to dismantle the PPP, instead of working together for the better for the country. Jagdeo has the right idea, do it and take the blame.

I thought AFC had new ideas and a fresh mind, then later I realised that they are more destructive than Burnham himself. They will do anything to dismantle PPP. Ramjattan is a drugie. Trotman is another scamp.

Cobra, the AFC arm of the opposition is not out to dismantle the PPP Govt. The AFC knew, realistically that we had a higher probability of a monority PPP govt tha either an AFC of APNU govt. We expected this and was prepared to work with this. I believe, at this moment, this is the best deal on the table. If we collaborate to bring down the PPP and have early elections, you can rest assure, the PPP will regain it's majority and the AFC will be the biggest loser.

The AFC has to prove their swing carries weight, weight for betterment, not for selfish politics. We have to prove ourselves as a small but potent party this time around if we want any chance of a second and better showing come 2016.

Guyana has been, and will always be largely race based politics. The seeds were planted in the early 60's and nurtured well under the PNC. Burnham and Jagan missed their chances to correct this, so we are now set this way for a very long time. The AFC's trisk with issues-based politics has been torpedoed by our failure to attract more Afro voters this time around. Indians shuddered at the thought of an APNU slip-stream default victory and are unlikely to repeat, plain and simple, like it or not. Guyana is about ethnic security, all else comes second.

Since the mid 1950's Dr. Jagan tried to bring unity between the various ethnic factions in Guyana....In the early 1960's he proposed an inclusive govt although the PPP had a majority, this gesture was rejected by the PNC....

In the 1970's Dr. Jagan proposed a national patriotic front govt which was also rejected because of partisian reasons by the PNC and WPA....

In early 1980's efforts by Dr.Jagan and Mr.Burnham to forge a national govt began to take shape and the PPP and PNC actually worked out a plan after several meetings....Burnham died in 1985 and the plans for unity were aborted by Desmond Hoyte who succeeded Burnham and rigged the 1985 elections to stay in power.....

Now in 2011 Ramouthar has an excellent opportuniy to tackle this gigantic task by starting with the appointment of an inclusive govt ...so far I only hear words but have not seen any tangible move in this direction....
FM
In fact this may the best situation to happen to Guyana. This will certainly push the political parties to cooperate and forge allegiances. But let us not forget that it could backfire in 2016 when Indians fearing a PNC victory will rush back into the arms of the PPP just as the Blacks did in 2011. The mistrust continues.

Churchil, you brushed over the opportunity to be a statesman, the immediate aftermath of 1992. Now, I know you gatt nuff nuff excuses. Plain and simple, LFSB iniatied action but croaked, Jagan got his chance, ran 5 years then croaked. They both failed when they had the card in their hands, plain and simple. We are living the legacy of LFSB and CBJ.

The mistrust has returned in full glory. The AFC's inability to capture Afro votes flat-footed many young indians who ventured out from under the PPP umbrella just to get a cold shower and chill. To some extent, the AFC "may" have contributed to this by neglected 4 and 10 until the end. This was caribj's point, something which I brought up several times, but wiser minds saw it differently.

We should make the best of this 5-year and maybe we could redeem something for 2016.

Ethnic voting will never change in Guyana. This election certainly was a cast in the mold. The only victors are those men and women who braved the odds anad gave the AFC seven seats.

Those seven seats are worth the entire remaining 58 seats. Judging from the calibre of the last parliament. This parliament will not bring much change.

For the PPP and the PNC, dynamic leadership is not a requisite. Their subjects are forever present. No matter what face represents those parties, they are assured their votes.

Knowing that much, then the Opposition parties should channeled their efforts into making Guyana a Paradise for all citizens.

They can muscle the PPP into relieving and promoting:

A special programme to the Amerindians. Education and full participation in all pillars of the society.

Removal of the Policemen on Motorcycles in GT. Extorting citizens.

Revamping of the police force.

Emphasis on cottage industries.

An inquiring into vehicle insurance costs in the country.

Keep a tight grip on our goldfields.

You have got it right on. Hope the PPP open their eyes and do some thorough investigations. There are a lot of instigators and undermining happening behind the scene and if they keep being so complacent, they might as well hand over the leadership to the opposition.
