Jean La RoseJean La Rose

Prominent Amerindian Rights activist, Jean La Rose is the opposition coalition’s Deputy Representative of the List, according to a well-placed source.

La Rose will be the deputy to Professor Harold Lutchman.

Lutchman and La Rose are expected to be among top officials of A Partnership for National Unity+ Alliance For Change (APNU+AFC) who would be presenting their list of candidates Monday afternoon.

Receiving the list would be Chief Elections Officer of the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM), Keith Lowenfield.

The Amerindian People's Association (APA), which La Rose heads, has had numerous clashes with government over various rights issues including land demarcation and the allocation of lands to local and foreign miners.

A top official of the coalition has told Demerara Waves Online News that the Representative of the List would be the custodian who would inform the Chief Elections Officer of the candidates to sit in the 65-seat House following the May 11, 2015 general and regional elections.

This is another significant development that shows the turning of the tide against the PPP.

In previous years as recent as 2011 the APA has always sought to be on neutral grounds going to extreme lengths to avoid the political opposition specifically the AFC so as not to be accused by the PPP of being aligned with the opposition.

Much to their dismay the PPP aligned them with the opposition anyway.

But now they have taken an immensely bold step in actually being front and center. This is a significant development and a major shift occurring in Guyana today.

PPP's days are numbered.

I am extremely dissapointed that Jean joined politics.  She does a phenominal job as a civil society and amerindian activist.

Now she is partisan and thus her work will suffer.

You see who will replace her in the APA.  The APA is well known globally and continue to get UN funds.  That will all now be under threat because these organisation do not give politicians funds.
