He was kind enough to have pushed the Great Powers into handing Guyana to dictatorship. Gave "critical support" to Burnham. Introduced communism and Cold War politics into Guyana.

Among his many spectacular failures were:

1) The unreformed Burnham Constitution

2) Criminals like Rohee in the Cabinet

3) A Stalinist political party for Indian people who have zero ability to vote out anyone.

4) Leaving Indians at the mercy of the PNC by doing nothing about the security forces.

Thank Allah he died before he could leave us more of his turd accomplishments.

The fact is the man failed. You can like him personally because he a was a smilin goofball. But that's all he was. A smiling goofball that Burnham buggered at will.

His love of Burnhamite buggery directly led to this election's hot topic of "how many coolies left Guyana." I suspect this will be the burning question until Indians become an irrelevant minority in Guyana as we are so fated by the demographic gods to become.

A great legacy indeed chap.

Satan:

You are not a dumb person.

Referring to the "Father of the Nation" as a "daag" is quite offensive, vulgar and inappropriate. You know better than that.

There hasn't been many people like DR. Jagan in the world. There will never be another Dr. Jagan type person.

Show that you can be a balanced person, not a lunatic like Freddie.

Whatever his human frailities, Dr. Jagan has made his place in history.

Don't let your otherwise useful contributions to this forum be discounted by such rash, shortsighted comments. Thank you, Brother.

FM

Shaits you have good points about Dr. Jagan but you impugn your case indeed with the daag references. That's for politicians and that's when one to be rhetorical.

Indeed Dr. Jagan left Guyana with a political organization that has exercised governance in a oligarchic and kleptocratic manner. He also did give critical support guided by a misplaced love affair with a political form that is anathema to his ethnic base. You can also say he authored the migration of Indians because of a lack of support for his base.

What you have to bear in mind though is that the same political Dr. Jagan made some landmark social and political changes to Guyana - the way that the British Civil Service shut out Hindus and Muslims; organizing for better labor conditions for sugar workers; education for the masses when it was for the privileged elite (think Queen's College and the birth of the University of Guyana); voting rights for women and those without economic means; etc. I'm sure others here can speak to the colonial r. Jagan.

It champions your bitter disappointment though by employing terms we can digest rather than "daag" and "coolie". I know they are colloquialisms and not mean-spirited, but when you market a product or service you have t make it attractive, and thus in this case the lexicon of those who do not need convincing but those who are already convinced. I'm sure you'd like to address the skeptics rather than the choir.

Let me be blunt; jagan was a myopic, naive, individual of low esteem to allow himself to be led by the nose by his wife who was a communist harpy. Never has so much rested on the shoulders of a man who stumbled so completely that he left a nation for almost seven decades struggling to lift itself up.

We are in the shi.t we are because he did not think of people and their problems but was enthralled by the ideals of authoritarianism. The man named his kid after the worlds worse mass murderer of his own people. How bright us that. I would say piss on his grave if he had one. The idiot give us no leadership from beginning to end.

Being good and good for the nation are two different things.

What a simplistic, self important ignoramus! Do you think this self aggrandizement at my expense will do wonders to your self esteem? You need more than that.

The Jagans set the Precedent for bad governance. Not even poor governance. Destroying the pillars of society, whereby his party abuses all things that a modern country is governed by.

It is hilarious to read the comments of Moses Nagamootoo and Joey Jagan that Cheddie would have chosen a National Government. Maybe, he said so. But din mean for it to happen. And Moses of all people should know that Cheddie just talk and smile. The same way, he said Moses was going take over from him-with no written record of it. Cheddie Jagan WOULD NEVER HAVE chosen a national government, He had SO MANY opportunities to do it. AND HE NEVER DID.

Some commentators on CBJ, just want to be polite or they just doan know how bankrupt was his ideas.

In 1955, he Split the PPP over a Leadership issue. And Moses, claimed Cheddie was talking to Forbes about shared governance. Forbes, maybe entertained him. I doan think Forbes might have forgotten the smear campaign initiated by the Jagans in 1955. They even got Forbes sister to bad mouth him, claiming he was power hungry.

Dr. Cheddie Beret Jagan, betrayed the trust of his 1953 supporters. That whole generation died experiencing racism-traumatic.

Their trust was never rewarded. And he died without a proper constitution for the Peoples Progressive Party.

The man was no leader. He harnessed the Guyanese people with thieves, fools and illiterates.

Cheddi believed any Tom, Dick and Harry could do anything. All that was needed was loyalty to ideology. For example he placed his driver on the board of GNCB, an important bank. Now banking is serious business.

The Jagans legacy in Guyana is easy to summarize. Janet Jagan was pushing Cheddi's buttons with a Trotskyist hard line communism at a time when the US was waving the Monroe doctrine in an escalating Cold War. The rest of the Caribbean did move from a colonial society to one of self governance and ultimately Independence without being caught up in the Cold Ward shenanigans. The Jamaica experience does not come close.

While Jagan was orthodox Warsaw Pact, Burnham was almost Maoist (like the cultist No. Koreans) and even had his spat with Dr. Clive Thomas and Dr. Walter Rodney - two South-South Third-worldist Socialist.

Guyanese free-market life was snubbed out with D'Aiguar and Balram Singh Rai - the latter a very conservative Indo-nationalist.

The post-1992 period of Cheddi's PPP went the route that Jamaica's Manley went. But that period was short-lived and Jagan's legacy of a Politburo-style PPP was exploited by Jagdeo in a growing narco-economy that started when illicit routes to Venezuela was opened up in the Burnham years of economic shortages and the US DEA actions in Colombia. Guyanese lost their innocence in that era. Lots of Indos made money and the poor Blacks had no champion. Burnham screwed them royally and Jagan was an able ally - all in the name of socialism in a post-sixties world of global economic turbulence following the OPEC and the escalation of Mid-East terrorism.

"Burnham Constitution" requires, as a minimum, sixty six percent of the MPs to make the needed changes.

The question always remains on what the PNC cum AFC has practically and publicly done in the national assembly to demonstrate that they want to make the amendments.

For practical purposes, the PPP/C has about fifty percent of the votes.

It is good to see the Chief practice restraint against others.  Particularly, those who would not hesitate to unleash an army of robotic minds and rank opportunist suck ups to hurl endless buckets of excrement against any East Indian who have been deemed to have crossed them.
