AFC played no role in selection of GECOM Chairman

Oct 21, 2017 News, https://www.kaieteurnewsonline...n-of-gecom-chairman/

…Condemns Jagdeo’s destabilisation threats

The Alliance for Change (AFC), which forms part of the coalition government, has distanced itself from the process that led to the unilateral appointment of retired Justice James Patterson as the Chairman of the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM).

However, it has condemned the threats by Opposition Leader Bharrat Jagdeo as reckless. Jagdeo has vowed to destabilise the government.

A statement issued by the AFC last evening following a meeting of top level party officials, stated that it is regrettable that after three protracted rounds of consultations and submissions each of the three lists fell short of the requirements of the constitution.

“The AFC played no part in the selection process,” the party made clear in the statement.

Justice Patterson was not among the names from the three lists submitted by the Opposition Leader. Jagdeo in response has promised to have the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) support base become uncooperative with the government on any issue.

The Opposition, People’s Progressive Party/Civic, plans to approach the international community, including the United Nations. He also plans to seek legal redress.

“The AFC strongly condemns the Opposition Leader for his reckless and unpatriotic stance of non-cooperation and civil disobedience and the party will hold him personally accountable for the consequences of any civil unrest which may ensue,” the party stated.

The AFC sought to justify the appointment, noting that the party recognised that the necessity had arisen for the president not to further delay the appointment of a Chairman. According to the AFC, the appointment in the president’s own deliberate judgment has averted a looming constitutional crisis.

“The party recognises that according to the constitution the consultation process was purely between the President and the Leader of the Opposition,” the AFC pointed out.

The AFC stated their intention to use the constitutional reform process to ensure that there is wider participation of stakeholders in the selection of GECOM commissioners.

According to the party, now that GECOM is fully constituted, the expectations are that GECOM will commence its work immediately in preparation for Local Government Elections in 2018 and Regional and General Elections in 2020.

The AFC said it holds GECOM to the highest standards of electoral integrity and will stridently challenge any threats to the preservation of democracy.

The AFC leadership is a bunch of liars. On national news Harmon, their boss has said that the selected will be discussed in Cabinet. But this is coming from those power hungry individuals, liars who have lost all sense of morality. Tgey can say what ever they want. They are like slave, do what their masa tell then to do or he will kick them out on their derrière st best or give them a real licking.  Moses knows what it feels like.

they will be surprised at where the opposition will come from. I do not think that Jagdeo will have much effect.

How do they expect Jagdeo to react? Say 'Thank you Massa'.

The AFC's credibility has morphed into coo-coo. AFC is Granger's ax handle made from PPP wood [Nagamootoo and Ramjattan] and now used to chop up democratic gains which Jagan and others had achieved through the Carter Formula for appointing GECOM chiefs.

The most vulgar part of that infamous AFC statement is to blame Jagdeo for not submitting one "fit and proper" name in 3 lists to Granger. Who but the dead-meat party and the PNC would believe that?

Even the WPA's David Hinds says Granger's dictatorial pick of Patterson is "politically senseless". There is growing denunciation of Granger's choice. FITUG, the PSC. Chris Ram have registered their angst. FITUG represents workers and PSC represents employers. They are speaking with identical voices on this shameless undemocratic act.

While we all disagree with Granger decision of choosing the GECOM chairman and pointing fingers, there should be a battle by the people to force the Lawmakers to amend the Constitution reducing the powers of the President.

This should be the front burner,i will await and see if all the talking heads of the homeland will initiate the movement.

Gilly,we need a New Axe and an effective handler of quality mettle,to thwart the growth of the two good for nothing Political Parties, the AFC which is part of both will  also be destroyed.

A new ax with power and size to splinter PPP and PNC will not materialize in the foreseeable future. We have to be practical and realistic. In my view, what we need are honesty, integrity and transparency from the PPP and PNC. In short, a better political culture.

For all intents and purposes the AFC is a rotting corpse infested with parasitic green flies and squirmy maggots. The living jumbies who released that AFC statement last night nailed up their party's coffin for good. Burial will be announced later by Granger, at his pleasure.

If it is such, then new leadership of both party will have to emerge, hopefully some time in the future the occurrence will happen.

Bai, let me repeat what I said before. The PPP is not Jagdeo only. The Party is greater than that one part named Jagdeo. In due course PPP members will elect a fit and proper leader to succeed Jagdeo. As for the PNC, no further comment.

No one at GNI could haver said this any better.

On a side note:

1. Granger did himself a lot of political damage.

2. The AFC leadership missed one final opportunity to resurrect the AFC by endorsing Granger's decision. To quote Gil, "Burial will be announced later by Granger, at his pleasure."

3. The PPP needs to act quickly in implementing a policy and plan to replace Jagdeo with a leader who will galvanize the opposition to confront this dictatorship and form partnerships to rid Guyana of this new Monster and Dictator Granger.

Spoken like a true statesman, you must be going after lil minista wuk. Remember Gaskin is minista and he nah got too much schooling either.

Remember PNC/AFC got the majority in parliament, only these jackasses can effect constitutional change by either jumping ship and colluding with PPp or making power moves of their own.  The PPP thinks that the constitution is clear about fit and proper person and see no need to change the language.

Whena  Drunk and a Namakaram Crabdaag are willing to sell their souls and families for wealth, POWER and influence there is nothing to say or do with such cruel, inhuman Parasites!!!

Nehru

That Namakaram Crabdaag who was justly beaten and thrown like a friggin DEAD DOG on the Berbice Parpet said he was going to be the barrier to Corruption, corruption and ensure transparency. NOW, Bigan in he kakahole and he mouth in he Batty at the same time!!!!

Nehru

Saying the AFC played no role in the selection means diddly squat. What would have meant a lot would be showing their opposition to it...they did not.

Yes, the parties joined together to get rid of the PPP and what was thought as a change but what is now going on is sheer bullshit. The AFC should all hang their heads in shame.

Ramjattan likes to project himself as always innocent of the shit when it starts to stink. The reality is he is meaningless to the Coalition.

Ksaz, in reality he is very meaningful to the PNC. An ass kisser and Batty washer like that is always welcome in the PNC. They love people who are always will to sell their souls and Families for Power and influence!!! It make the cocktail Parties by the PNC more enjoyable when the family attends!!!
