Some have kids in high school who are the oldest in their class and struggling to graduate because of poor parenting.  Empty vessels make the most noise.

There are them too. I went to my son’s school meeting recently and met kids 2-3 years older than him. But dem same kids got siblings making it through very well.  So not sure how the parenting thing worked there!

There are many reasons why a high school student struggles to graduate. It's totally unfair to blame it on parenting. The subjects in the last 2 years are tough, especially Math, and the teachers advise students to get tutors to help them. Currently, my son is helping a professor's daughter with Math so she can graduate on time.

My lil son set to graduate on time. He struggled earlier when he came over with English as he transitioned from German. Math was fine with little coaching. Most of the early tutoring was done by me.  He is ok now, only comes from time to time.

I must say that while I am a good and supportive parent, I have no role in my kids' education. Not possible since I am a high school dropout. However, both of my kids are excelling at school. The 9th grader is going to have three college classes when he finishes 9th grade and the girl is about to finish a Biology major, Chemistry minor degree from FIU. I am very thankful to God for that.

Don't sell yourself cheap, you must have played a role in their success, just being there when it counts.

I agree with you KP.  The presence and nurturing of a parent is more important than the level of their education.  Parents are role models.  They lead by example.  I have seen many simple and humble parents raise successful children and vice versa.

It's a shame to see black celebrities on TV thanking their mothers and nothing is said about their fathers  MIA. I often say invest time and money in your children s education at an early age and by the time they reach senior high they are well molded  to know their future goal they will be on auto pilot.

Those two kids are the reason I wake up each day. My wife is the reason I wake up during the nights.

Actually, I learned a lot of American history helping them.  Also, it keeps up my Math skills. I can say, the Math is difficult.  I found myself on Khan Academy brushing up!
