Speaking with Guyana Times during an interview last week, the workers said that since the closure of the estate, they have been significantly affected despite the payment of severance belatedly by the Guyana Sugar Corporation.
A former field foreman attached to the Rose Hall Estate, Glendon Grant, said the community of Adelphi is hard hit by the closure, and ordinary folks are struggling to survive or make ends meet. He said he had to borrow money from his neighbours in order to cover the expenses related to the overheads of his household, as things are becoming even harder financially.

People just refuse to plant a kitchen garden. No one should be starving in Guyana. Land is abundant
Amral is sending a positive signal to avert starvation in Guyana by planting kitchen gardens. I have advocated for home garden to my own family until I was disappointed to hear that they were buying pepper and the land is harvesting bush. That's when the remittance stop completely.
Guyanese are too quick to blame any government for their problems
If they shit stink they will blame someone. Bottom line they have gotten lazy over the years and spoil due to money coming from overseas. Let them rass suffer and learn to be self sufficient. I have no sympathy for them. Many are too lazy
Numerous people can plant a kitchen garden, have a place for poultry, a few domestic animals, etc., to have the means for a living.

Somehow they find money to order in Chinese food and money for rum.
I always brag about my kitchen garden in G/T. It was situated near a septic tank and the produce was good as gold. My neighbors would steal my tomatoes, etc., but I invited them to take freely but don't abuse the privilege. Due to my kindness, they even offer to water the plants for me.
A message for Yuji. Take note how to feed the neighborhood without Burnham.
