Riff you have been closing threads by PPP posters including myself even if someone else uses unacceptable terms.

You sir have proven to blind to the Racist terms and blatant lies that Carib posts here at GNI and give him a free pass.

Here he is inciting hatred and is quite racist, posting lies, he is a racist PIG.

Take action now!!!!!!!! Please end your double standards.

"Jagdeo did a terrific job in screaming that "if de PNC win blackman gun rape your daughters".  He didn't say "blackman", but said police and GDF, but you and I know full well that it is the image of the violent and rapacious black that he wanted to convey to Indians."

Fair enough Bossman.

FYI. Riff has been closing many of my threads where another poster uses the term blackman. He should be notified to cease these types of unilateral decisions in closing threads because of decisions that he makes when the term blackman is used.

He needs to act with balance and fairness. What is good for the goose is good for the gander.

These inconsistencies cause many problems and confusion resulting in frustration on the part of posters. Yes, admin has a right to delete threads since the site belongs to them. However, posters need clear guidelines which are going to be followed consistently.

amral is either being disingenuous or does not understand that the word "b......." is as racist or maybe more so  than the "n....." word in Guyana. It seems to me that the Ni...." word was rarely used in the past in Guyana. It was more tge "b....,,," worn hurled around as a racial epithet. What about the use of the " c....." word? Many of us grew up having this word shouted at us in attempting to dehumanize us. Why is this word not banned too? What about sexist comments? Why the inconsistencies? Why the new found political correctness? Certainly, I agree that sexism and racism must not be tolerated. However, we need consistency!

It's all in the context...or the way it's being used

If someone say "you're a stupid coolie or stupid blackman", then the words are being used in an offensive manner.

WHile the words themselves are nor banned, I think some people use it to start fights or insult each other on here.

If you use it in that manner, threads start to become personal insults, that's why I started to close them. Banning people is only temporary, when they return, they continue along the same vein.

I have found that closing threads are more effective.

If Amral feels I should not do that, then I'll stop. Until then, I'll continue to close or delete threads if I feel that they become inflammatory

In America today, the flood gates are open regarding sexual assault, insults, racist remarks and so on. Many of the high and mighty will fall, businessmen, politicians, celebrities , sport professionals and the rest. Things that were taken for granted years gone, is a crime today. I don't have problem with slangs such as blackman and coolie, but the insinuation of the use of profanities , such as f**** and so is as good as using the word, those curse abbreviated words MUST not be used, it is filthy, many of us will not use those words in our home, so why use it in public on this forum?

Riff continue what you are doing. You are correct, there are certain ways when the words are used that invite racism

Then Riff must apply those rules consistently and fairly. Carib has been getting a free pass a GNI right under Riff's nose.

Caribj AKA Mughabe is irrelevant, let his spew his RACIST self. He is who he is.

There are many people who are proud of their colour. Blacks are proud to be referred to as Blackman, blackwomen, black people, black girl, black boy. They even go so far as asking others to called them so. However, it comes down to Individuality - how the person feels about being called a Blackman etc. If the person says that they do not like being referred to as a Blackman etc. please respect their feelings and stop calling them that. Calling someone a Blackman does not necessarily make him or her racist. In my own previous posts I have referred to people as blackman? Does that make me racist? I frankly don’t care what others think about me.

Yesterday I visited a Jamaican friend, he was babysitting his two grand kids, His grand son is seven years old. The little boy ran up from the basement shouting, "Kera is behaving like a Old N****R woman" he was referring to his sister who is nine years old. So I asked my friend if he heard what the boy said, and he repeated what was said. I turned to the little boy and said, that's a bad word and don't ever say it again, by then the grandfather said ,stop using that word!!. I asked the boy where he learnt that word, he said Grandpa does call Grandma "Old N****R woman.  That little boy is learning from his elders, everything.

Is not "arguing like a woman " sexist stereotyping?

Riff and zamal, thanks for the reply and comments. However, I disagree with your response. Please note that I respect your right to make the rules and do what ever suit you. As you might note. I try to be respectful at most topimes. I do not make racist, sexist comments and statements.

I think justifying the use of racial and sexist comments or words on the basis of the context is a cop out and wrong. It a basically a recognition of how those racial and sexual epithets become part of the norm, how we have accepted others definitions,. Paulo Freire refers to this as prescription. Also, not because someone or many say or do something make it right. We need to name racial and sexism for what it is regardless of the context. There are at least two in those exchanges. The person saying that word and the receipient. None can guarantee that what is said will be received by the person to whom it is directed and to those who hear it in the same light as the person saying it meant it to be taken.

saying all of the above, at least let us be consistent. Though, I hope that we recognize and act in recognizing that the days of making racist and sexist statements and committing racist and sexists acts are gone.

Thanks for answering my question.

For Cain and you, when I became a member several years ago, I gave my opinions to admin and others posters on how I stand regarding the numerous racial, sexist comments the cussing that went on by posters and consistency on the part of admin. Some people are hard ears and one cannot change their views. For others, there is a chance.

I remember telling Carib that I refuse to spend my time in acts of futility, that instead. I will spend my time doing what I set out to do when I remigrated. So yesterday as most Fridays and Saturdays, my day started at1:30 am and I got back at 7:30 pm.

That is what I am doing and am not a prolific poster like some people here. I repeat, I have had my say on this issue previously. I do not have the time or inclination to prove this to you, but Django has the time, motivation and ability to check. Furthermore. The post was a question and most appropriate at this time because there is a discussion on what is appropriate, what will be banned and what will result in posts being closed.

also, as far as I know, I have a choice of when to respond and what to respond. These are not the Burnham and dictatorship days. When I see things that move us back and inane comments that support that,  I will respond if time permits.

and last but not least, the leadership of the AFC lied to the people about their non involvement in granger's decision to unilaterally appoint the chairman of Geocom. Have a good day!

I don't lose sleep over how I am perceived. As I stated before, I will never be a PNC supporter. I once lived through their mischief before I left Guyana. They and their supporters were bullies behaving like they were the judge, jury and executioner. That said, I don't have any issues with people who choose to support the PNC. That is their choice. I have friends who are PNC supporters. Just like I have friends who are Republicans although right now, I can not support the Republicans since they too are bullies.

Why is Yugi hiding to catch members and report them to admin for rules they haven't broken? He is playing Tom and Jerry game when GNI calls for maturity and tolerance from its members. This will certainly go against his declaration that he is an experienced and knowledgeable political debater.

Yuji is also a mastered copycat. I read through some of his posts and discovered that he uses words and lines from other members as his own to counter-balance his arguments. Guyana without the PPP is a dead-end for Yuji. Yet, he can't come to terms that Blacks existed alongside Indians throughout the course of our political history.

How can we depend on Yuji to motivate us to coexist with the other races in these troubled times?

Clearly there is a bias by one of the admin on the use of vocabulary to describe Afros vs Indos. Collie seems to be acceptable as a racial epitaph.  However depending on who is using the term blackman, this particular admin will go into a hissy fit and close threads. Someone once mentioned that he had Afro in his family and hence was sensitive to criticism of anyone Black.

Kaz,

fair enough,we can all co-exist regardless of our their differences in support and opinions, foremost that is achieved when we respect each other.

Can that be said of some Guyanese, some thinks their shit don't stink, and some thinks due to their status they are better than some,i can go on..on..,our people need to change their ways.

Note:I am not judgmental, right here on GNI,some folks are guilty.

Is there a problem if someone have Africans in their family ? and what if Ray's family are made up of Aficans ? what is you point of mentioning such.

What sort of sentence structure is this ??

What level of education did you achieve that gives you the authority to question the grammar of others?

You have to have authority to question grammar? I thought all you need to do is be able to read.

What authority do you have to question someone's education?
