Fish fall from sky with rain in northern Mexico

(AP) — Civil defence officials in northeast Mexico say a light rain was accompanied by small fish that fell from the sky.

Tamaulipas civil defence says in a brief statement that rain Tuesday in the coastal city of Tampico included fish. Photos posted on the agency’s Facebook page show four small fish in a bag and another on a sidewalk.

According to the U.S. Library of Congress, it’s a phenomenon that has been reported since ancient times. Scientists believe that tornadoes over water — known as waterspouts — could be responsible for sucking fish into the air where they have blown around until being released to the ground.

In 1986, my family and I had moved back to Guyana and lived at a Windsor Forest. It was raining heavily and my wife and children heard a loud bang from the zinc on top of the shed and saw a fish slide off to the ground.

I once saw a can of sardines in a laneway by my place and I thought it must have fallen out of someone's grocery bag...AHA..this could be the answer.

Did you hear a plane overhead? Maybe it was someone dropping off some 'erbs.

This happens when you have cyclone over water with fishes and then moves over land.

As kids growing up, we were always told that the rain put the fish in the newly dug ponds. One primary school teacher told us that because of the so much rain and rapid condensation, fishes and sometimes eggs, are pulled out of the water. I don't think this is a new phenomenon.

I once witnessed a hassa fell from the sky during heavy rainfall in Guyana, Berbice region. Did anyone witness this phenomenon?

That was a regular phenomenon back in the 50's. Many time I pick up live fishes jumping on the sea dam. During a rainfall. As kids, we love to run in the rain.

The eye witness account of seeing fishes fell from they sky when it rains, is more believable than all UFO's accounts worldwide.
