how fast is t he internet there. Use this test

D2, I was there recently. They have different ranges of internet speed that you can get. I was on a package from GT&T and I was getting 9 Mbps download and 1 upload. I think the package is supposed to be giving 15.

I know I used to use 56baud (25 years ago)but with 150Mbps I cannot working at that rate. These days with everything needing to stream, you need blazing speed. The last time I used  below 15Mbps was with DSL and that was some 15 years ago and then the net was not so graphic rich and videos were still standard res.

I am going to take care of some family business and wanted to know the speed

There is no such thing as blazing speed there. It used to be a lot worse up until about a year ago, like 1 down and 1 up. They made some upgrades to the system and you get about 10 down and 1 up now. I was using a phone app that works on the wifi and if anyone in the house was streaming video at the same time the voice would start breaking up. The bad thing is that they pay the same as we would pay here for 75/75 and they don't even get 10. Forget it if you're depending on upload speed. It crawls.

The speed is just atrocious. I have a gold plan for which I pay approx $10,000 per month. It is really brutal today which is a holiday. Sometimes it is very choppy when streaming. The most I can get for download is 5 and upload just over 3.

The price you pay for internet service in Guyana is just ridiculous. For the equivalent of $10,000 in the US I get 75/75 and when I run the speed test, it's usually 85/85.

I am running 150 Mbps both ways. I pay 240 a month (taxes included) with the triple play and their ultimate package. I just resigned with them for another 2 years but I wish I had not....just not in the house enough to pay for the tv channels...almost 500 of plain crap.

Internet alone would have been 89...I should have canned all tv.

Unless it comes with a week's supply of groceries, 240 a mth is quite high for tv and internet. Recently  I have not watched more than 7hrs of tv a week and only use the net from my phone. That would be $200 more than I would be willing to pay.

Dude....those tv software providers are crooks. For example they charge you 19 dollars per DVR then another 15 so you can record multiple shows! I have two of them and two Tivos so my wife can get her shows in our home office.

we are news junkies. MY wife also has netflix, hulu, Prime and playview so she can look at her stuff on the road. I am presently binge watching Archer. I regularly watch bike races streaming from ( cyclingtv.com, $79 a year), science and game of thrones etc.  I watch at least an hour and a half a day. Plus the tv is always on
