Who asked Trump  to run for President?

He was called two days ago.

Still awaiting a return call.

He is too confident of himself.

Confidence is a good thing .

WHAT do you think?

PROBABLY the reason he is not returnig  g your call is because either he Is busy doing community it work or  of your foolish question" Who ask him to run for the City Council seat".

Bibi

I am resisting from addressing you as stink poke but if you continue with such unsubstantiated nonsense about a young man who is running for office then you will get it.

So now, I will address you properly. Miss Bibi I honestly do not know the young mans' religion  and no  we never met at any Masjid.

What I do know is he is always around  and a very dedicated community service worker. When he was very young , he and a few other youths formed the Indo Carribean Alliance and they did make a change in  the lives of our youths in Richmondhill and South Queens.

Sop the hating Bibi!!

I am not hating anyone.  Richard and I are good friends.  And I know his parents and grandparents.  His grandfather had several wives and all lived in the same yard in two houses in Dundee, Mahaicony.

Guyanese-born seeks to make City Hall history

Richard S. David.

Richard S. David, a former vice president of the NYC Economic Development Corporation, is poised to become the first Guyanese-born in the City Council, when constituents of District 28, Queens, go to the polls in the September primary, and general election in November of this year.

Raised by a single mother, David and two brothers, who, were born in the small village of Mahaciony, on the East Coast of Demerara, in Guyana, is a highly ambitious young man, is adamant that local government has neglected his district for many years, and is ready to delivery real results and change.

David said he was inspired by President Barack Obama’s call to action in 2008, and became a mentor to boys and girls of color in Southeast Queens.

Small in stature, but big and bold in vision, David will no doubt have a powerful voice in City Hall for residents of District, 28, that he said, have been locked out of all decision making.

“We do not have a respected voice fighting to bring more resources into the community,” said David, adding, that citizens’ quality of life for citizens, has decreased.

“We need a fresh start with a council member like me, who can make government work for all of us,” said David, a Hunter College graduate, who organized students on campus, where he was president of the WISE Club.

His journey started at age 13, when he got his first job. He worked at the South Queens, Boys & Girls Club, which today is one of the leading social justice organizations in Council District 28, and New York City.

David’s work ethic and community initiatives have been stellar. And since launching his campaign mid February, David, who obtained his Master’s Degree from New York University, graduating debt-free, because of his determination to succeed on his own, said he will bring bright new ideas to the New York City Council.

“I have worked in government for over 10 years and I have been a leading advocate for the community for even longer,” said the young politician, who is ready to roll up his sleeves to deliver real results. He said he is ready, now more that ever. “This is the kind of change we need.”

According to David, he has maintained robust ties in the community, even while working and going to school, by engaging religious, civic and business associates. He was the youngest member of Community Board 9 for nine years where he remains active.

He knows fully well who votes in that district. Unless he is seen to have visible black support he will LOSE.   The Indo Guyanese neighborhoods are carved up between various city council districts.  I thought that you would have learned something by now.

I also don't know that Tangerine is a big time PNC as she used to frequently write glowing articles about Guyana during the PPP era.  Jagdeo is quite familiar with who she is.

Tangerine I suspect is just a patriotic Guyanese.

Hope he pays attention to what you are saying Carib.

Based on those he has around him I think that he does.  I believe that he grew up in NYC so will have a different concept of himself and how he relates to people of color who aren't Indian.  I have seen him in majority black gatherings and he appears to be quite comfortable.

He is very comfortable in black gatherings and their community. The question is, are blacks comfortable with voting for a non black candidate to represent them.

He has to work very hard to win this seat.

He has to work very hard to win this seat.

De Blasio won the election based on the black vote. He even beat Bill Thompson, a black candidate, based on the black female vote.

If he cultivates the black vote he might get support. If he gets the right blacks around him he will build up trust.

And his name is an advantage as some people might even think that he is some kind of mixed black.  They wouldn't necessarily connect him as being a full out Indo Guyanese.

The negative that he might have to deal with are allegations that he is gay, and his mannerisms are delicate.  Blacks in Queens are conservative.  Less broadminded than those in Harlem or in even places like BedStuy and Fort Greene.

But maybe some black "aunties" might like him and in these low turn out elections they are the ones who vote.  If you asked the average person whether they know that there is a major election in about a month they wouldn't know what you are talking about.  The fact that De Blasio has no real primary is going to depress turn out.  That might help him if he has a strong machine.

The winner will be who has trade union backing. Maybe that's why Vish is with Hettie.

Good morning Carib.

Another disadvantage for a candidate like him, he has to deal with thE corrupt Queens Democratic  machinery who hand select a candidate.

The points you made are correct, hopefully he can make a little break through on the other side of the Van Wyck.

Yes this will be a low turn out election. Most people don't even realize that it is 6 weeks from now. Generally its the machines and the unions which get the voters out in these low turnout elections so if David isn't hooked into either it will be very difficult for him.

I don't detect that there is a groundswell of excitement for him among the Guyanese in this district. Correct me if you think that there is.  If there is then that might offset a low turn out on the other side of Van Wyck.

I suspect that New Yorkers have gotten bored with their local politicians anyhow. I remember there was a time when people actually thought that city council members were important. Now its like the judges. We don't know who they are and so we don't care, thinking that there will be scant importance in our lives.  City Council is quite corrupt.  It as bad as Guyanese politics.

I met with young Richard David today. He has declared his intention as candidate for District 28 /Richmond hill/South Jamaica and South Ozone Park.

Richard came to the USA WHEN HE WAS 10 YEARS OLD AND HOLDS A MASTERS FROM NYU.

Let us all support this young man.

Exactly two years ago today to this date, I started this thread about a youngman from Guyana who has intentions to run for District 28 , the most populous district with Guyanese immigrants. He visited my office on that day and lay out his plans and intentions.

TODAY two years after, that youngman Mr. Richard David is on the ballot. What an achievement !

I arrivedin the USA in1987 , from then to now I have supported quite a few Guyanese for political office. I am passionate about having a Guyanese at City Hall as a councIL member. Over the years the two closest Guyana se that made a strong effort was NR. Colin Moore and Mr. Trevor Rupnarine, both were unsuccessfully but at least they planted the seed. I remebered when Mr Moore was running, he told then President I f Guyana Dr Jagan, that if he is sucessful he wivite Dr Jagan to the swearing in.

TODAY once again, we immigrants have an opportunity to elect a Guyanese Mr. Richard David,to the NY City Council . In this day and age when the President is showing so much animosity to Immigrants, here in NY our immigrant children has something and someone to look up to in terms of political office .

I urge everyone to throw our support with Mr. David, call a family it friend and spread the good word, an immigrant from Guyana  is on the ballot.

Every vote counts, register to vote and go out to vote on primary day for Mr. Richard David.

God bless all of you, God bless Mr David and God Bless America!

It is a wonderful thought.

But we must learn to crawl before we learn to walk

In the political world, one must have a decent community track record. It is also important to be a district leader then setup a Political Club

None of this was done as yet.

But the eagerness to get the TOP Prize is always attractive

Try to get a job within a political office so you can understand the world of politics and community service

Disgraced former Queens city councilman Ruben Wills cried like a baby as he was sentenced to two to six years in prison Thursday for looting public coffers, pleading for leniency and maintaining his innocence to the end.

Wills, who was stripped of his title at sentencing, was ordered to pay almost $33,000 in restitution after a jury found him guilty of pocketing some $30,000 in city funds.

The normally well-heeled politician arrived in court in jogging duds and blue sneakers–and bawled as he begging the judge for leniency, claiming he’d done nothing wrong.

“Do not incarcerate me,” Wills begged. “I maintain my innocence and disagree with the verdict.”

“I did those things to enrich the community,” the typically cocky man said through sobs, at times crying so hard he was unintelligible. “I cannot justify that I did something wrong.”

“In my entire life I’ve never taken anything from anyone,” he blubbered. “My purpose from birth is I am an advocate.”

The still-teary pol then turned to his wife, and apologized for not spending more time with her “because I was out in the streets helping people and praying for people.”

Defense attorney Kevin O’Donnell also asked the judge for mercy, saying “very few people have given more to the community than Ruben Wills.”

“Show him some mercy, some compassion,” the lawyer implored, adding that jail would bankrupt his client and leave him unable to pay restitution. “I’m just asking you, judge, that you do the right thing and let him do community service. Nobody wins by him going to jail.”

“I have no doubt that you have done some good things in the community,” Queens Supreme Court Judge Ira Margulis told the whimpering lawmaker. “However you are convicted for stealing from state and city agencies.”

Margulis then slapped the disgraced pol with a $5,000 fine on top of everything else, and ordered him cuffed.

Members of the packed gallery–which included his father–sniffled as a shackled Wills was led back into the pens following his sentence.

A jury found the ex-councilman guilty of five of the six counts against him in his corruption trial, after hearing the Democrat spent the stolen loot on himself and loved ones–including to purchase of a $750 Louis Vuitton bag, a Wii console and a three-pack of underwear.

“New Yorkers deserve public servants whose priority is the needs of their constituents, not lining their own pockets,” said Attorney General Eric Schneiderman, whose office prosecuted the case. “Instead of spending taxpayer money on projects to help his community, Ruben Wills betrayed the public trust by stealing tens of thousands for himself – and he’ll now pay the price.”

O’Donnell told reporters he and his client intend to appeal the conviction, adding he’s in the process of filing an emergency stay in order to keep Wills out of prison pending appeal.

We're honored to receive the endorsement of CWA District 1, one of the largest unions in the country, representing more than 150,000 workers. "This year we are pleased to support a large group of City Council incumbents who have been fighting for working people over the last four years in New York City. We are also excited about the opportunity to elect a new group of pro-worker candidates who will strengthen the Council’s progressive bloc. We need elected officials who are committed to fight for good jobs, take on Wall Street and stand with public sector workers,” said Dennis Trainor, Vice President of the Communications Workers of America, District 1. #VoteForRichard #cd28 #1u
