10th Edition of ‘GUYANA WHERE and WHAT’ launched

Jun 26, 2017 News, http://www.kaieteurnewsonline....e-and-what-launched/

The 10th Edition of GUYANA WHERE and WHAT, 2016-17 edition, has been launched. The premier pocket size guide book on Guyana is now available for visitors to Guyana and Guyanese alike.

Guyana where and what is published by Gem Madhoo-Nascimento of G.E.M.S. Inc.

The first edition was published in 2007 for World Cup Cricket and since then it has been published annually.

It is filled with an abundance of information on Guyana for visitors, to guide them on historic and adventure tours, popular sightseeing spots, monuments, gardens, notable buildings of significance, restaurants, hotels, resorts and other places of importance.

The guide book is even used as a reference in some of our local schools. The information section is also in Portuguese to assist the growing population of Brazilians residing in Guyana and to support Brazilian tourists, businessmen and traders visiting Guyana.

Each edition comes with additional information and the 2016-17 publication has added the Island of Wakenaam to its many towns and villages. Wakenaam has a few historical sites worthy of a visit, as it forms part of the history of the Dutch settlers in the Essequibo River going back to the late 1500’s-early 1600’s.

To date, approximately 200,000 copies of the guide book have been printed and distributed locally and internationally at hotels, restaurants, airports, tour operators, resorts, travel agencies and Embassies in Guyana and overseas. The guide is free and is supported mainly through advertising revenue from businesses.

The 132-page Guide book has a 10 x 12 ins pullout map of Georgetown and the Guyana map. The Georgetown map is of Greater Georgetown, showing up to Cummings lodge to the East and Industrial Estate, South Ruimveldt Park and South Ruimveldt Gardens to the South.

Copies can be obtained from the Tourism and Hospitality Association of Guyana in Waterloo Street.

Wakenaam and neighbouring islands have important historical places.

This is wonderful fact filled publication by Gem Madhoo, who attended CHS. She  is one of the best travel agencies in Guyana.

I am fortunate to have copies of her first 2007 publication, while attending world cricket in Guyana.

Gem is a wonderful person and very accommodating to overseas visitors, with her personal experience,
