The issues predate the 1940's.

Around the First World War, arrangements were in progress to establish two independent states - Palestine and Israel.

Issues developed to shortly after the Second World War when Israel declared the formation of a state while today, issues regarding Palestine lingers.

The Balfour Documents around 1917 plus other related documents have valuable information.
