BREAKING NEWS: Granger unilaterally appoints GECOM Chair

President David Granger has finally selected an individual to be appointed as the Chairman of the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) and the person will be sworn in tonight at State House.

News Room understands that Granger unilaterally appointed 84 – year old James Patterson – a former High Court judge, who is currently a legal advisor to the country’s Attorney General. It should be noted that Patterson’s name was not included in the third and final list which was submitted by Opposition Leader, Bharrat Jagdeo.

News Room was reliably informed that the Opposition Leader is not in agreement with the President’s decision.

According to a statement from the Ministry of the Presidency, the swearing in will occur at 20:30hrs.

President Granger and the Leader of the Opposition Bharrat Jagdeo had moments ago met to discuss the matter.
