They say that Shakti Samanta wanted to give this role to Sharmila Tagore but Asha Parekh went straight to Shakti and said that she wanted this role badly and she would do it for next to nothing. The rest as they say is history as Asha Parekh went to win Filmfare's Best Actress for this role. I am for one glad she did that . Her face is forever imprinted as the "kati Patang" This is Asha Parekh's movie a memorable performance.
