Looks like the media has become insensitive to crime, as crime news have been relegated to the back pages and not even mentioned in Chronicle or Kaieteur.

Man shot, car hijacked by gunmen in Sophia

A taxi driver was admitted to the Georgetown Public Hospital on Thursday evening with a gunshot wound to his back, which he sustained during a robbery at A Field, Sophia, Greater Georgetown.

Colin Ageday, 53, of Golden Grove, East Bank Demerara, was shot to the back after he was attacked by two armed men who subsequently relieved him of his Silver Grey Toyota Premio motor car bearing registration number HC 3612.

Guyana Times understands that the taxi driver dropped off a passenger in A Field, Sophia, and was on his way out of the community when he was attacked by the two armed men.

He reportedly put up a fight and one of the men discharged a round, hitting him to the back. The men then removed the injured Ageday from the car and left him on the roadway. Based on information received, residents heard the gunshot and looked out to enquire.

It was at that time that Ageday was seen lying on the roadway shouting for help. He was picked up and rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he was admitted. He reportedly told Police ranks that the men were not wearing masks and that he can identify them.

Police have launched an investigation into the incident, but up to late Friday afternoon, the car was not recovered.
