Restaurant owner robbed at gunpoint

– one in custody

The proprietor of the popular ‘Delicious’ Chinese Restaurant on Cummings Street, Queenstown, Georgetown was robbed at gunpoint on Sunday morning.

Reports are that three gunmen pounced on Chan Zhang Liang and relieved him of $300,000 and the keys to his business and car.

Guyana Times was told that Liang was returning home at 03:00h when he was confronted by the three armed men in front of his home.

At the time of the incident, he was in the company of a friend but the friend too was held up by the gunmen.
Guyana Times understands that two of the three men were partially masked.

This newspaper was told that some hours after the robbery, Liang saw one of the gunmen in the area and the Police was summoned.

The man was taken to the Alberttown Police Station where he was questioned.
A close associate of the businessman told this newspaper that Chinese nationals have now become targets for gunmen.

To date, the Police have failed to charge anyone for the murder of Zhenjz Su, also called “Black Chiney”, who was chopped and shot to death during a robbery at Mandela Avenue, Georgetown, two months ago.
Su, owner of Jade Stone Restaurant, was beaten and chopped when bandits invaded his business place. His wife Fei Su, was also beaten.

Two days after that incident, Hua Kang Huang, 30, a Chinese national, and owner of the Wisdom Supermarket of Better Hope, East Coast Demerara was shot to his thigh during a brazen robbery.

It was reported that about 20:30h, two men walked into the Supermarket and held up Huang, demanding money, but the owner refused to cooperate. In retaliation one of the men shot him to the left thigh and took away about $100,000 in cash.

As they were leaving, two of tem collected a bottle of Skyy Vodka each and then escaped. Again, no one has been charged.
