Market vendor robbed, shot by pedal cycle bandits

A vendor of Bourda Market is now nursing a gunshot wound to her right foot following a robbery on Sunday evening while she was conducting business. The injured woman has been identified as Sewdassie Jagmohan, who hailed from Parika, East Bank Essequibo but now resided in Kitty, Georgetown.

According to information received, about 23:30h on Sunday, Jagmohan was reportedly attacked by two men, one of whom was armed with a handgun, who demanded cash.

Jagmohan reportedly put up a fight, but the gunman discharged a round, hitting her to the foot and relieved her of $300,000 which she had in her possession.  The men then jumped on their pedal cycle and escaped.
Guyana Times understands that the woman would normally sell cash crops and selling wholesale customers when the attack occurred. The woman has been plying her trade for quite some time and was known around the market area.

Vendors in the area recalled seeing the two young men, but thought that they were shopping as were the other customers. It was not until they heard the woman scream and the sound of a gun that they became aware of the robbery.

Jagmohan was picked up and rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital where she remains a patient.  Attempts to contact her proved futile.  Police are proceeding with their investigations.
