33% increase in robbery with violence – Top Cop

Commissioner of Police (ag), David Ramnarine says that from January to now, the Guyana Police Force recorded a 33 percent increase in robbery with violence but a nine percent decrease in serious crimes when compared to last year.

During a press conference at the Ministry of Public Security Boardroom on Wednesday, the Top Cop revealed that there is also a 13 percent decrease in murder, 15 percent decrease in robbery under arms, six percent decrease in robbery under arms with the use of other instruments and 8.5 percent decrease in rape.

The force also recorded a 17 percent “clear up rate,” which translates to solving crimes.

The Top Cop credited the successes to capacity building for police ranks and the assistance of the Justice Society program of Canada.
