Cain, in all seriousness, I think that it is callous for the government, through GUYSUCO to lay off all of these workers without having a concrete plan in place either for their retraining or otherwise. This is wrong and will have severe impact on the communities where these workers reside and depend on for purchases, etc.  Carib has been arguing that the same thing happened to bauxite workers. If he is correct, that was wrong also.

SUgar has been used as a political football over the years by all the political parties and the workers are the ones to face the consequences. The argument that they voted for particular political parties so they must bear some the responsibility, though sounding alluring, is not. Regardless of who wins an election, the party that wins has an obligation to govern as if all the people voted for it, that it acts in the interest of all.

I still hold that a good cost benefit analysis has not been done, that the management of GUYSUCO lacked the vision and expertise necessary to transform the industry into a profitable one, that the decisions currently made are political ones based on political expediency and motives. They really do not understand good management practices, do not know the difference between level 1 and level 2 change, do not know how to recognize possibilities and move from possibilities to reality.
